Gamma Knife and Cyberknife are noninvasive treatments using a high dose of radiation to the area in the brain while causing little or no damage to surrounding tissue.

This type of treatment is used for adults and children with small to medium size AVM's and other brain abnormalities that are less than 3 cm. or 1 inch in diameter.

The AVM isn't automatically removed with radiosurgery. It's a process that can take up to 3 years. The patient is still at risk for hemorrhage during this time.

The patient's age, overall health condition, location and size of the AVM or brain aneurysm are all determining factors when considering Gamma Knife treatment. It is also used when the patient prefers a less invasive treatment.
