                SCREENING FOR BRAIN ANEURYSMS

Even though there have been years of scientific research confirming many of the major risk factors for brain aneurysms, there is the absence of government recommendations for screening procedures. However, it is strongly recommended that people at high risk of rupture be screened.

The following are suggested guideline to follow for screening:

One first-degree relative with a brain aneurysm

  • Screening MRAs should be completed every 10 years

  • If family history changes from 1 to 2 or more first-degree relatives, then screening frequency should be increased to every 5 years

Two or more first-degree relatives with a brain aneurysm

  • Screening MRAs should be completed every 5 years

IF YOU FEEL YOU ARE A CANDIDATE FOR SCREENING , PLEASE MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH YOUR PHYSICIAN TO HAVE A SCAN. IT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE!
